Friends You Can't Trust - Shoesup No. 40 Magazine

By Mark Tan 18 January 2014

There’s always something special about magazines that are edited in two languages.

In this issue of Shoesup Magazine, there are a couple of things that I think are worth mention.

The first is an interview with Erik Brunetti, founder of clothing brand FUCT, and the man largely credited as the creator of streetwear. His story is a pretty inspiring one to say the least– I mean not many people get to say that they started a global trend from dollars earned through graffiti art. Brunetti also candidly shares his views on the future of streetwear, and its demise. Interestingly, he attributes blame on the internet for killing individuality and how streetwear shouldn’t be merged into basketball, baseball culture.

The second is an article on Rap and Hip Hop culture, and how far away it has moved from its homophobic roots. I think this is spot – on and definitely worth a read:

Even the biggest go on a media friendly operation: Jay Z says gay marriage is a good thing and ASAP Rocky admits that it’s ok to be gay. After all, all his favourite designers are gay.” TRUTH.

Would highly recommend that you pick this up.
